First Haircut(s)

This morning we took Hannah to get her first haircut!  It didn't start off so well because she 'didn't want her hairs cut' and would not sit in the airplane chair, so Dan had to sit with her.  We took her to Cookie Cutters so they are prepared for kids and have TV/DVD players at each station...Thank God for Cinderella!  The stylist just told Hannah she was going to brush her hair.  It must have felt good because Hannah had a glazed look on her face like she was under a spell.  We only got the ends cut off her hair so that it is even and it actually curls more at the ends now! 

After Hannah was done, Alyssa decided she wanted to try so we had the ends cut off of hers as well.  She thought it was really fun, but still needed to sit on Daddy's lap this time.  I am so glad we got hers done, because it actually looks like it is supposed to be short now.  It is so sweet...and she picked out a bow to put in.

They both look beautiful and their hair looks so healthy now!  They are already talking about going back ;) What a way to end the year!

Operation Potty Train

It's time.  Time for Hannah to graduate to 'big girl panties'.  I am sick of buying diapers...sick of changing them...sick of a diaper bag.  We waited to start the intense training until we were on break from school, so last Monday we dove right in.  

I thought it was going to be a battle from the beginning because she didn't want to and she is majorly stubborn, but we were pleasantly surprised.  The first few days she went around with panties and didn't have any accidents!  She wore a pull up when we went out, but she would even tell us she had to go and used the toilet.  A sticker chart worked great with Alyssa...M&M's are gold to Hannah.

I don't know if she is getting lazy or if the craziness of Christmas screwed her up, but the last week hasn't been as smooth.  She has been peeing in her pull up even thought she knows what to do...as soon as she does it she tells us she 'accidentally peed' and giggles.  Even more frustrating than that though, is the pooping.  She won't do it in the potty.  She has asked for a diaper, gone in her pull up, in her panties and even on the middle of the living room floor (with several people over, might I add ;)...but not in the toilet.  We have begged, bribed and threatened.  Nothing has worked!  

So, as Christmas break comes to a close, this is where we stand: she wears panties (or nothing) around the house and uses the potty with few accidents or prompting;  when we leave, she wears a pull up and it depends on her mood if she decides to use that or the potty; poop, like I said, is anywhere but the potty!  I guess it is just going to take some time.  I know it will happen eventually.  I doubt she will be going to prom in a pull up ;)

In the mean time, it is frustrating.  Potty training is gross.  I'm so glad there is light at the end of this tunnel...

Hannah pooped on the potty for the first time on New Years Eve and hasn't looked back since!!  I think we are finally over the 'hump'...

Christmas Marathon

Christmas was crazy this year!  We have so many people to celebrate with it can't all fit in one day, so a few days before Christmas we celebrated with Grandpa Bender.  We some dinner together and opened presents.

The next day, on Christmas Eve, the girls went shopping with grandpa to pick out some presents for me, Dan and grandma.  When they got home, Grandma Aidan came over to open presents from here and they we left for church.  Then we had dinner together before heading to grandma and grandpas to open a gift they had been asking for - the Leapster Explorer 'Video Game'.  Then we finally went home to set out a sweet treat for Santa, a snack for the reindeer and watch a Christmas movie.  Hannah was asleep in less than five minutes and Alyssa was begging to go to bed. Can Santa come every night?!?!? Once the girls were asleep we could finally finish up the gifts and build Alyssa new bike.  Hannah got a new bike too...Aly's old one.  Sorry Hannah :)  

Dan and I decided this year that while Christmas is really fun, Christmas Eve is actually our favorite.  There is so much excitement and anticipation for what is to come...and when the day is over, it isn't really over.

Christmas morning was fun, of course, and not too early.  The girls woke up at 7 and we opened gifts and had breakfast.  Hannah was so fun this year because she understood what was going on.  Her and Aly were so cute, taking turns opening gifts and gasping at what everyone got. The big things this year were Princess and Angelina dolls from Santa and bikes from Mommy and Daddy.  Plus they got lots of books, games and other fun toys.  Daddy got a hand painted paperclip drawer for his desk at school with an iTunes gift card and Mommy got a custom made 'Mommy's Meal' cookbook to add all of our favorite family recipes in.  Very sweet!

 We had some of these, but Santa almost completed the collection.  We only need one more 'Tiana' and one more 'Jasmine' to have two complete sets of the Disney Princess dolls!  That is a lot of Princesses...and even more pint sized shoes ;)

Santa also got the girls a beauty set to share with plastic make up and hair tools.  I almost took this back to the store, but decided to keep it because they have shown such an interest in this stuff lately.  I am glad I did!  This cheap-o set is their most played with gift so far. While we were getting ready to leave I caught Aly sitting in the hallway, in front of the mirror, doing her hair and make up.

After a potty training fiasco that resulted in Aly and Hannah both changing their entire outfits, it was off to Grandma Johnsons for lunch and more presents. At Grandma's they got lots of fun toys, including cool Ariel walkie talkies.

The last stop was Grandma and Grandpa Millers to have dinner and open more presents.  They got more fun toys and games, but my favorite is all of the Princess dress up stuff they got.  I hardly took any pictures because we were too busy enjoying the day, but now I regret not having more.  I need to hire a personal photographer in the future ;)

Finally, we made it home.  The girls fell asleep before we even got home and Dan and I spent a good hour or so sorting through their new goodies and making room in our house for them.  I can't believe Christmas is over for another year!  It sure was a good one!

Christmas Cooking

The next day the girls help Grandma 'Aidan' make sugar cookie cutouts with Aidan and Caleb.  I forgot my camera because we saw 'Tangled' first, but this is a shot Dan got on his phone.  There was flour everywhere!

Then, as if we hadn't made enough cookies, we had some YL girls come over and made more sugar cookie cutouts.  They were pretty darn good at decorating.  If I see them on Food Network someday, I will definitely be taking the credit ;)

 Aly and Hannah LOVE being around these girls!!  They are so cute!  Aly thinks she is a leader right along with us...I hope she always keeps that enthusiasm for ministry!

Spreading {a little} Christmas Cheer

Last year Dan and I reconnected with a few of our old YL club kids from Grove City at the 40th Anniversary dinner.  Now they are married, college grads with a beautiful baby of their own!  We have spent some time with them since getting to know them and enjoying their friendship.  Then, out of the blue,  Matt sent Dan a text asking if we were home because they wanted to drop something off to us for Christmas.  I thought they had baked us some cookies or perhaps a gift card for a night out...neither of which were necessary.  I got a text about an hour later saying they had left it on our front porch, but that we would need to bring it in soon.  I almost fell over when I opened the door.  

It was a BRAND NEW 42'' PLASMA TV - Are. You. Serious.

Dan called Matt when I told him what it was and he just said, "They just wanted to spread a little Christmas cheer." 

They are nuts...in a good way!  It is humbling and makes me want to do something for someone else.  Their generosity is amazing, and generosity like that makes others want to follow Jesus.  I hope some day we not only have the money to be as {or more} generous, but also that we have the heart to bless people the way they do.  We are so thankful for their friendship and their hearts for the Lord...oh yeah, and our new TV ;)

Wildlights 2010

This is, hands down, one of my favorite activities this time of year.  I don't know what it is, but the Zoo becomes completely magical under the millions of lights.  It feel like you are at the North Pole.  And, even though the girls were kind of grumpy to start with, this year was no different! 

 

I don't know why Mrs. Claus' kitchen is a 'flash free' zone, but that is why these are kind of blurry. Hannah didn't particularly care for Mrs. Claus hoovering over her shoulder...

 Aly on the other hand was totally into it! Here she is taking a few pointers from the Big Guys wife.

Allergy Season Is Over...

Right?  You would think so, considering it is in the teens and everything that produces an outdoor allergen is dead...but not for Alyssa.  Poor thing!  We went back to allergist and were told the medicine isn't really helping [which I already knew]...at least not enough, plus she has a sinus infection.  So she was put on an antibiotic and an oral steroid, which brings up her current daily medicines up to six, so she can get cleared up to begin the immunotherapy.  We are not looking forward to shots once a week for the next 6-9 months and then every month for 3-5+ years, but we have to do something.  She is miserable and we can't keep pumping her full of steroids, as a band-aid for a deeper problem.  Everyone we have talked to has had positive results with the therapy so we have hope this will bring her some relief...hopefully sooner rather than later. 

Winter Celebration

I seriously hate not being able to go to Aly's class parties (those are the kind of things that make me want to quite my job and sell everything we own so I can be a SAHM)!  Luckily, Grandma was able to go to the Holiday party...and Dan was able to surprise her with coming as well.  She had a blast and is such a show off when people are there with her! 

 Hannah was also ecstatic to be there with her sister!  She got to participate right along with Aly's class.  She is such a big girl...

 I know I have said this before, but Alyssa LOVES to have Hannah there with her and show her off! They may be complete opposites, but they are two little peas in a pod!

This is a cute picture of Hannah, but look behind her at the wall.  Aly's teachers created the coolest display of student made stockings hanging over a fireplace (complete with 3D fire) and a tree with presents!  Sometimes teaching preschool seems like fun...
